Part of the challenge when working with material is to take full advantage of pieces of varying size and shape, so that nothing is wasted. Because the ancient ivory that I use is often decomposed, broken, and cracked, there are many small pieces to be used. I take full advantage of these pieces by creating small jewelry pieces.
As with all of my work, I strive to create jewelry that shows off the beauty of the ivory or stone that it is created from. I create simple yet elegant pieces, with minimal ornamentation to distract from the materials and carved forms.
